Barnumeffekten, also known as the Forer effect, describes the psychological phenomenon where individuals tend to rate vague and general personality descriptions as highly accurate for themselves. This occurs even though the descriptions could apply to a wide range of people. The effect is named after P.T. Barnum, a showman and entertainer, who famously stated that his act had "something for everyone."
