Barletis

Barletis is a fictional town and municipality created for illustrative purposes in this article. It is located on the coast of the Barletian Bay on the northern fringe of the continent of Veridia. The municipality covers roughly 42 square kilometers and lies at low to moderate elevation, with a temperate maritime climate that moderates winters and summers. The population is about 9,800 residents, with a mix of urban neighborhoods near the harbor and rural hamlets inland.

Barletis operates a mayor–council government. The mayor is elected for a four-year term and is supported by a town council of 15 members. Local services include schooling, waste management, policing, and urban planning. The town maintains a small port authority to oversee harbor operations and pursue local development.

Historically, Barletis began as a medieval fishing hamlet that grew around a natural harbor. It expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries with trade and small crafts, and was connected by a regional rail line in the early 20th century. Today the economy centers on fishing and seafood processing, small manufacturing, and tourism. Surrounding valleys produce grapes and olives, contributing to local agriculture and regional vintages.

Culturally, Barletis hosts an annual harvest festival and maintains a maritime museum and a 12th-century chapel. A lighthouse at the harbor and a promenade are popular with visitors.
