Bacilleja

Bacilleja is a genus of flowering plants in the family Plantaginaceae, native to the Mediterranean region and the Canary Islands. The genus was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. Bacilleja species are herbaceous perennials, typically growing to a height of 10-30 cm. They are characterized by their small, bell-shaped flowers, which are usually blue or purple, and their narrow, linear leaves.

Bacilleja species are often used in rock gardens and alpine gardens due to their low-growing habit and ability to thrive in poor, well-drained soils. There are currently 12 recognized species of Bacilleja, including Bacilleja carniolica, Bacilleja coccinea, and Bacilleja laevigata. Bacilleja species are not known to have any significant medicinal or culinary uses. However, they are valued for their ornamental qualities and are often cultivated for their attractive flowers and foliage.
