BTR90

The BTR-90, officially designated BTR-90 Rostok, is a Russian eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier developed in the 1990s. It is an advanced development of the BTR-80 series and was designed to provide enhanced firepower, protection, and mobility. The BTR-90 features a significantly improved armor scheme, offering better protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters compared to its predecessors.

Its armament typically includes a 30mm 2A42 autocannon, a 7.62mm PKT machine gun, and a 30mm AGS-17 grenade launcher, often mounted in a two-man turret. This provides substantial offensive capabilities against infantry, light armored vehicles, and fortifications. The vehicle is powered by a YaMZ-7511 diesel engine, giving it a top speed of around 100 km/h on paved roads and amphibious capabilities.

The BTR-90 can transport a crew of three and up to seven combat-equipped troops. Its modular design allows for various configurations and potential upgrades. While it entered limited service with the Russian military, its widespread adoption has been slower than anticipated, with other variants and newer designs also being considered and fielded. Production and development have continued, with modifications and export versions being offered. The BTR-90 represents a significant step in the evolution of Russian wheeled armored vehicles, focusing on increased survivability and combat effectiveness.
