BPMN diagramok, or Business Process Model and Notation diagrams, are a standardized graphical representation for specifying business processes. This notation provides a common language that is understandable to all business stakeholders, from business analysts who create the initial drafts, to the technical developers responsible for implementing the technology that will perform the process, and finally, to the business managers and users who will manage and carry out the processes.

The core elements of a BPMN diagram include activities, which represent work performed, events, which are things that happen during a process, and gateways, which control the flow of the process. Activities can be simple tasks or complex subprocesses. Events can be start, intermediate, or end events, signifying the beginning, middle, or completion of a process. Gateways are used to model decision points, parallel execution, or merging of paths.

These diagrams are crucial for process analysis, design, and improvement. They allow organizations to visualize their current processes, identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks, and design optimized future processes. By using a standardized notation, BPMN diagrams ensure that process models are unambiguous and can be consistently interpreted across different departments and even organizations. This clarity facilitates better communication, reduces errors, and supports automation efforts. BPMN is maintained by the Object Management Group (OMG).
