BMDértékelés is a term that refers to the evaluation or assessment of bone mineral density. This measurement is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring osteoporosis, a condition characterized by weakened bones that are more prone to fractures. BMDértékelés is typically performed using a non-invasive imaging technique called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, commonly known as DXA or DEXA scans.

DXA scans compare a person's bone density to that of a healthy young adult. The results are expressed as T-scores and Z-scores. A T-score compares the patient's bone density to the average bone density of a young adult of the same sex. A T-score of -1.0 or higher is considered normal, between -1.0 and -2.5 indicates osteopenia (low bone mass), and -2.5 or lower suggests osteoporosis. The Z-score compares the patient's bone density to the average bone density of someone of the same age, sex, and ethnicity.

BMDértékelés is recommended for women aged 65 and older, men aged 70 and older, and individuals of any age who have had a fragility fracture or have risk factors for osteoporosis, such as low body weight, smoking, or certain medical conditions and medications.
