Aðaðaveggir

Aðaðaveggir are a mountain range situated in eastern Iceland, specifically within the Highlands region. This mountain range stretches over a considerable distance, approximately 40 kilometers from north to south, and is characterized by its rugged terrain and varied landscape.

Aðaðaveggir are notable for their intense geological activity, which has been influenced by the region's tectonic history. The area is dotted with numerous volcanoes, frequently dormant, and its unique geology has resulted in a fascinating array of landforms. Due to its extreme weather conditions and remote location, Aðaðaveggir are not typically frequented by tourists as they are other areas in Iceland. In general, public access to Aðaðaveggir has been restricted, primarily due to safety concerns related to their unforgiving terrain, harsh weather conditions, and landslides, which often occur. Countries enforcing regulations aimed at reducing traveler visits to these areas might qualify Aðaðaveggir as an 'unnavigated and difficult travel terrain'. Travelers, including Icelandic, are typically forced to trigger this mountain network through mountain crossings for short periods.
