AwutuSenya

AwutuSenya is a district located in the Central Region of Ghana. It is situated to the south of the region and shares a border with the Districts of Ekumfi and Ajumako-Enyan-East. The district has a total population of approximately 75,000 people, based on the 2010 census. It covers a land area of about 1,877 square kilometers.

The district is named after the Awutu and Senya ethnic groups who inhabit the area. The people of AwutuSenya are largely engaged in agriculture, with a majority practicing traditional farming methods. The main staple crops grown in the district include cassava, maize, and plantain. The district also has significant deposits of limestone, which has led to the establishment of a cement factory.

There are several notable towns in the district, including Awutu Beraku, Mallam and Toton, which serve as centers of commerce and trade. The towns are also home to a number of local markets where produce from the surrounding villages are sold. The Shepelic refrigerated storage facility and a fiber optic cable installation are also notable infrastructural developments in the district.

The AwutuSenya East and West Municipal Assemblies have implemented several development projects in the district to improve the lives of the residents. These projects include the construction of new schools, healthcare facilities, and market centers, as well as the provision of safe drinking water. The district is also a hub for traditional arts and crafts, with a rich cultural heritage. However, the district like many others in Ghana face developmental challenges including lack of proper waste management and poor road infrastructure.
