Avlo

Avlo is a brand of high-speed rail services operated by Renfe, the Spanish state railway company. Launched in 2021, Avlo offers a low-cost option on the Renfe AVE network, aiming to attract price-sensitive travelers to Spain’s high-speed routes.

The service uses the same high-speed rolling stock employed on other AVE services and runs on the same core corridors, but with a simplified fare structure designed to reduce the overall cost of travel. Avlo tickets are typically cheaper than standard AVE fares and are associated with more restrictive terms, such as limited changes and refunds. Some onboard services common on more expensive tickets, such as certain meals or flexible scheduling, may not be included in the base price.

Initially Avlo operated primarily on the Madrid–Barcelona corridor, where promotional fares emphasized its status as a budget option on high-speed travel. The brand was introduced as part of Renfe’s strategy to compete with low-cost airlines and to respond to new entrants in Spain’s rail market.

Over time Renfe expanded Avlo to additional routes as demand and capacity allowed, adjusting timetables to offer multiple daily services on core routes. Avlo remains part of Renfe’s portfolio of high-speed offerings, positioned alongside traditional AVE services and other rail brands, with the aim of broadening access to high-speed travel across Spain.
