Autoteiden
Autoteiden is a term used in Finland to refer to motorways. These are highways designed for high-speed vehicular traffic, characterized by multiple lanes in each direction, limited access points, and typically a central reservation separating opposing traffic. Autoteiden are a crucial part of Finland's transportation infrastructure, facilitating long-distance travel and the efficient movement of goods. The Finnish road numbering system often uses the prefix "E" for European routes that pass through Finland, which may also be autoteiden. Construction and maintenance of these roads are managed by the Finnish Transport Agency (Väylävirasto). Speed limits on autoteiden are generally higher than on other roads, usually 100 or 120 kilometers per hour, depending on the specific section and conditions. Access to and from autoteiden is controlled through interchanges, preventing direct entry or exit from adjacent land. This design ensures a continuous flow of traffic and minimizes the risk of accidents. The network of autoteiden connects major cities and population centers across the country, playing a vital role in both domestic and international trade and tourism.
