Australiërs

Australians, officially known as Australian citizens, are the people who are citizens of the Commonwealth of Australia. The term is also used to refer to people of Australian birth or ancestry who reside elsewhere. The population of Australia is diverse, reflecting a history of migration from many different countries. The Indigenous Australians, comprised of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, are the original inhabitants of the continent and have a history stretching back tens of thousands of years.

Since the mid-20th century, Australia has become a multicultural nation, with a significant portion of its population born overseas or having at least one parent born overseas. Major source countries for immigration have included the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, China, India, Vietnam, and Italy, among many others. This diversity has shaped Australian culture, cuisine, and society.

Australian culture is often characterized by a relaxed attitude, a love for the outdoors, and a strong sense of mateship. There are regional variations in culture and lifestyle, with distinct differences between urban and rural areas, and between the various states and territories. While English is the official language, many other languages are spoken within Australian communities. Australians participate in a wide range of sports and recreational activities, with cricket, Australian Rules Football, rugby league, and rugby union being particularly popular.
