Ausgehärtet

Ausgehärtet is a German term describing a material that has completed its hardening or curing process. It denotes a state in which a previously liquid, viscous, or malleable substance has undergone chemical or physical changes sufficient to reach its final mechanical properties and stability. The process is called curing or crosslinking, depending on the material, and may be triggered by chemical reaction, heat, moisture, or radiation.

In polymers and coatings, ausgehärtet means the resin, adhesive, or paint has formed its network and developed bond strength and durability. Common examples are two‑part epoxies, polyurethanes, acrylics, and UV‑cured coatings. Some systems cure at room temperature through chemical crosslinking; others require elevated temperatures, ultraviolet light, or controlled moisture. The term also covers paints and varnishes that have fully dried and formed a continuous film.

In construction materials such as concrete and mortars, ausgehärtet describes the stage when the material has gained the specified strength after hydration and curing. This commonly occurs over days or weeks, with long‑term strength continuing to develop beyond the initial cure. Proper curing—maintaining appropriate moisture and temperature—is essential for achieving design strength and durability.

Factors influencing curing include temperature, humidity, chemical composition, additives, film thickness, and exposure to air or solvents. In quality control, ausgehärtete products are tested for hardness, tensile or shear strength, or adhesion to ensure they meet specifications.
