Außenbordmotor

An Außenbordmotor, also known as an outboard motor, is a self-contained propulsion unit that can be attached to the stern (transom) of a small boat to propel it through the water. It typically consists of an engine, gearbox, and propeller or jet drive. Außenbordmotoren are widely used for their portability, ease of installation, and versatility.

These motors are available in a range of power outputs, from small engines suitable for inflatable dinghies to powerful units capable of propelling larger recreational boats. They are commonly powered by gasoline engines, but electric and diesel variants also exist. The engine drives a propeller shaft, which extends into the water, turning a propeller to generate thrust. The unit can be tilted up out of the water, which is advantageous for trailering, launching, and beaching the boat. Steering is typically achieved by pivoting the entire motor unit, either manually or via a remote steering system.
