Attributesrange

Attributesrange is a concept used in data modeling and analytics to describe the range of values that an attribute may take within a dataset, schema, or system. The range can be numerical, temporal, or categorical and may be defined by a data type constraint, a formal domain, or the observed data distribution.

In practice, attributesrange helps with validation, query optimization, and user interface design. For numerical attributes, the range typically consists of a minimum and maximum value. For date/time attributes, the range covers the earliest and latest timestamps. For categorical attributes, the range is the set of allowed or observed categories.

Determination of ranges can be static or dynamic. Ranges may be defined in a schema or inferred by analyzing data samples. Variants include inclusive versus exclusive bounds, fixed ranges versus open intervals, and per-attribute ranges versus global ranges across a dataset.

Applications of attributesrange include form validation, input controls such as sliders and drop-down menus, range-based filtering and queries, data quality checks, and visualization tools like histograms or range maps.

Examples include a SQL table column age with a range of 0 to 120, a datetime field with a range from 2020-01-01 to 2024-12-31, or a status field restricted to the values {pending, approved, rejected}.
