Astromech

An astromech is a class of small droid in the Star Wars universe designed to assist starship pilots with navigation, astrogation, and ship maintenance. Astromechs typically work from the cockpit or a dedicated astromech bay, serving as onboard copilots during flight and operations.

Design and capabilities: Most astromechs feature a compact cylindrical body with a retractable, domed head and a three-legged chassis. The head houses sensors and an interface for data and control, while the body contains tools, diagnostic hardware, and memory modules. They can project holographic navigational charts and ship-wide status displays, interface with flight and sensor systems, and perform tasks such as route calculations, hyperspace plotting, sensor calibrations, and in-flight repairs.
