Asrarul Hasan is an Indian diplomat who served as the Foreign Secretary of India from February 2011 to July 2013. He is known for his active role in promoting India's diplomatic efforts, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Born on July 12, 1949, in Bangladesh, Hasan pursued a career in the Indian Foreign Service after completing his education. He joined the service in 1976 and quickly rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities during his tenure including as a Head of Mission in Russia, Turkey and the European Union.

Asrarul Hasan serves as the Chairperson of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), and has held several key positions, including Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs and Consul General of India in New York. He was also the Indian ambassador to Russia.

As the Foreign Secretary of India during the high-profile Delhi Dialogue, a major initiative to boost bilateral ties with ASEAN countries and increase India's economic and strategic foothold in Southeast Asia. During his tenure, India introduced a mechanism for Community Visas for citizens of the Philippines, aimed at increasing tourism and facilitating travel between India and the Philippines.

Asrarul Hasan holds an honorary Doctorate in Law from Jadavpur University and a Padma Shri from the Indian government. He has received various awards and recognitions for his distinguished service in the field of diplomacy.
