Asparagusic

Asparagusic is an adjective referring to asparagus, a plant in the genus Asparagus. In scientific and descriptive usage, the term is applied to substances, properties, or phenomena that originate from or are characteristic of asparagus.

Chemically, asparagus contains compounds such as asparagusic acid, a sulfur-containing constituent. When asparagus is consumed, metabolic processes in the gut and by resident microbes can convert certain asparagus-derived compounds into volatile sulfur compounds. These volatile substances, including methanethiol and dimethyl sulfide, may be excreted in urine and are associated with the distinctive odor that some people report after eating asparagus.
