Askepius

Asclepius is a figure in Greek mythology who was a god of healing and medicine. He was the son of Apollo, the god of music, prophecy, and light, and a mortal woman named Coronis. According to myth, Asclepius was raised by the centaur Chiron, who taught him the art of healing.

Asclepius became so skilled in medicine that he was able to bring people back from the dead. This greatly angered Hades, the god of the underworld, who complained to Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus, fearing that Asclepius's actions would disrupt the natural order of life and death, struck Asclepius down with a thunderbolt and sent him to the underworld.

However, after his death, Asclepius was deified and became a god himself. His symbol was the serpent-entwined staff, which remains a symbol of medicine today. Temples dedicated to Asclepius, known as Asclepieia, were built throughout ancient Greece and served as healing centers. People would travel to these sanctuaries to seek cures for their ailments, often sleeping within the temple grounds in hopes of receiving divine healing in their dreams. His worship was widespread and he was revered as a benevolent deity who offered hope and relief to the sick.
