Asideitä is a narrative device used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding to denote brief, reflective digressions inserted within a main storyline. These digressions, sometimes called micro-essays or lyrical interludes, pause the principal actions to illuminate character motives, cultural context, or ethical questions.

The term is a neologism formed from the English word aside and a fictional in-world suffix -itä, signaling a recognized class of utterances in the narrative tradition of the Lysari. The coinage appears in late 21st-century writing circles as a generic technique rather than tied to a specific author.

Asideitä take several forms: concise prose fragments, short poems, or diary-like entries. They can be set as standalone blocks or woven into dialogue, and they typically shift voice, tense, or perspective to distinguish them from the main narration.

Functionally, asideitä provide memory, moral reflection, or political commentary. They invite readers to consider consequences beyond the visible actions, reveal hidden motivations, or present counterpoints to the protagonists’ choices.

Reception and use vary. Proponents argue that asideitä deepen worldbuilding and thematic resonance; critics warn they may disrupt pacing if overused. Writers are advised to place them deliberately and keep them concise.
