Asetaattiionin
Asetaattiionin, also known as acetate, is the anion derived from acetic acid. Its chemical formula is CH3COO-. It is a common anion found in organic chemistry and biochemistry. Asetaattiionin is formed when acetic acid loses a proton (H+). This process occurs readily in aqueous solutions due to the relative acidity of acetic acid. The acetate ion consists of a methyl group (CH3) bonded to a carboxylate group (-COO-). The negative charge is delocalized across the two oxygen atoms in the carboxylate group, giving it resonance stability.
In biological systems, acetate is an important metabolic intermediate. It can be produced during the breakdown
In industrial applications, acetate salts are widely used. Sodium acetate, for example, is a food additive (E262)
