Arteriovýarteriální is a term that describes a direct connection or communication between two arteries. In medical contexts, this typically refers to an abnormal or congenital connection. Such arteriovenous fistulas, while commonly discussed, involve an artery and a vein. An arteriovenous fistula that exclusively involves arteries is less common.

These arterial-to-arterial connections can arise from a variety of causes. Congenital malformations, where the blood vessels do not develop correctly during gestation, are one possibility. Acquired arteriovenous fistulas can occur due to trauma, such as penetrating injuries that damage adjacent arteries and cause them to abnormally connect. Surgical procedures can also, in rare instances, lead to the formation of these connections if arteries are inadvertently joined.

The clinical significance of an arteriovenous arterial connection depends on its size, location, and the amount of blood flow through it. Smaller connections might be asymptomatic, while larger ones could lead to complications. These complications might include altered blood flow patterns, potentially affecting the perfusion of downstream tissues. In some cases, the abnormal flow could lead to the dilation or weakening of the involved arteries, increasing the risk of aneurysm formation. Diagnosis typically involves imaging techniques such as angiography or ultrasound. Treatment strategies are tailored to the specific case and may involve endovascular procedures or surgical intervention to close the abnormal connection.
