Arsamess

Arsamess was a 3rd-century BCE scribe who served in the court of the Ancient Egyptian pharaoh, Ptolemy V of the Ptolemaic dynasty. The available information about him is limited, mainly found in a letter written by Arsamess himself to the Babylonian king, Artaxerxes III. The letter, datable to around 217 BCE, contains details about Arsyer, a Babylonian named by Arsamess as his opponent or rival.

In the context of the letter, Arsamess requested that Artaxerxes III treat his adversary, Arsyer, with less forthcomingness and entitledness than he had experienced himself. This created contention between Arsamess and Arsyer. The exact identity and circumstances of Arsamess remain unclear.

Arsamess played a significant role as a scribe in the royal court of Ptolemy V, carrying out tasks connected to such occupational evidences. The historical significance of Arsamess arises from the twelfth well-known Ptolemaic archive, the portion of which is considered as the Nilikan armorisms entitled 'BMYL'.
