Aromanianspeaking

Aromanianspeaking refers to the use and understanding of the Aromanian language. Aromanian, also known as Macedo-Romanian, is an Eastern Romance language spoken by the Aromanians, a Balkan ethnic group. The language is closely related to Romanian, with which it shares a common ancestor, Proto-Romanian. However, significant differences in phonology, vocabulary, and grammar distinguish Aromanian from Romanian.

The number of Aromanian speakers is not precisely known, with estimates varying widely. Historically, Aromanian was spoken across a wide geographical area in the Balkans, including parts of Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Serbia. Due to historical migrations, political changes, and assimilation, the community of speakers has become more dispersed, and the language faces endangerment in many regions.

Efforts to preserve and promote Aromanian language and culture exist. These initiatives often focus on education, cultural events, and the publication of literature and media in Aromanian. Despite its endangered status in some areas, Aromanian continues to be a vital element of Aromanian identity for its speakers.
