Arktiset

Arktiset is a Finnish term referring to the Arctic region. This vast area encompasses the northernmost parts of the Earth, characterized by its cold climate, extensive ice cover, and unique ecosystems. The Arctic region includes territories from eight countries: Canada, Denmark (Greenland), Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States (Alaska).

The Arctic is defined by several geographic and climatic features. The Arctic Circle, located at approximately 66.5 degrees North latitude, serves as a common boundary, though definitions can vary. Key elements include the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas, and parts of northern landmasses. The region experiences extreme seasonal variations in daylight, with periods of 24-hour sunlight in summer and 24-hour darkness in winter.

Life in the Arctic has adapted to these harsh conditions. Indigenous peoples have inhabited the region for millennia, developing distinct cultures and ways of life closely tied to the environment. Wildlife includes species like polar bears, seals, whales, and various migratory birds, all specially adapted to survive the cold.
