Ariobarzanes

Ariobarzanes was a prominent figure in ancient history, serving as a general and later a king in the Parthian Empire. Born around 230 BCE, he was a member of the Parthian royal family and a descendant of Arsaces I, the founder of the Parthian Empire. Ariobarzanes is best known for his military campaigns and his role in the Parthian conquest of Babylon in 237 BCE.

Ariobarzanes initially served as a general under his brother, Phriapatius, who was the king of the Parthian Empire at the time. He distinguished himself in battle and was eventually appointed as the governor of Media. In 237 BCE, Ariobarzanes led a campaign against the Seleucid Empire, which had been weakened by internal strife. He successfully captured Babylon, marking a significant victory for the Parthians and expanding their territory.

Following Phriapatius' death in 217 BCE, Ariobarzanes ascended to the throne of the Parthian Empire. His reign was marked by continued military campaigns and efforts to consolidate Parthian power. However, his reign was relatively short, as he was succeeded by his son, Phraates I, in 211 BCE.

Ariobarzanes is remembered for his military prowess and his role in the expansion of the Parthian Empire.
