Areopagus
Areopagus, or the Hill of Ares, is a prominent rocky outcrop in Athens, located northwest of the Acropolis. The hill rises above the surrounding area and consists of a flat limestone summit. The name Areopagus also refers to the ancient governing body that historically met on the site, and to the court that carried its name. In modern Athens the hill remains a well-known landmark with views over the city, and the name survives in local street names such as Areopagitou.
