Types include iterative cycles, which repeat the same process to refine existing features; incremental cycles, which add new functionality each time. Blended approaches mix both. Cycle length varies based on risk, team size, and product complexity.

Benefits include faster value delivery, better risk management, and improved stakeholder feedback and transparency. Challenges include estimation accuracy, cross-team coordination, architectural integrity, and ensuring effective integration across cycles.

Metrics commonly tracked include cycle time, lead time, velocity, throughput, defect rates, and user satisfaction. Governance typically involves roles such as product owner and development lead, artifacts like backlogs and roadmaps, and tools for planning, tracking, and continuous integration.
