Arbeiderpartiet

Arbeiderpartiet (Labour Party) is a social democratic political party in Norway. It was founded in 1887 and is one of the two major parties in the Norwegian parliamentary system, along with the Conservative Party (Høyre). The party advocates for social democratic policies, including a strong welfare state, progressive taxation, and labor rights.

The Labour Party has been a dominant force in Norwegian politics since its inception. It has governed Norway continuously from 1935 to 1965, and again from 1972 to 1973, and from 1976 to 2005. The party has been particularly strong in the labor movement and among trade union members.

The party's ideology is centered around social democracy, with a focus on economic equality, social justice, and a mixed economy. It supports strong public services, including healthcare, education, and social security. The Labour Party is also known for its progressive stance on social issues, such as LGBTQ+ rights, women's rights, and environmental protection.

Arbeiderpartiet is a member of the Party of European Socialists and the Socialist International. It has been a strong advocate for Norwegian membership in the European Union, although it has opposed Norway's eventual accession due to concerns about sovereignty and the Norwegian model of the welfare state.

The party's youth wing is known as AUF (Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking), and it has a strong presence in Norwegian politics, particularly among the younger generation. The Labour Party also has a strong presence in local politics, with many mayors and council members being affiliated with the party.
