Aquaman

Aquaman is a fictional superhero in DC Comics. The alter ego is Arthur Curry, a half-human, half-Atlantean prince who becomes the king of Atlantis. Created by writer Mort Weisinger and artist Paul Norris, he first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941. His origin typically portrays him as the son of a lighthouse keeper and Atlanna, the queen of Atlantis, who bridges land and sea cultures.

Across decades, Aquaman has been a founding member of the Justice League and the ruler of Atlantis in many continuities. Early stories mixed crime-fighting with the politics of underwater realms; later iterations expanded his kingdom’s politics, conflicts with rival Atlantean factions, and threats from the ocean depths.

His powers include superhuman strength, speed, and durability, underwater respiration, and telepathic communication with marine life. He wields the Trident of Poseidon in many stories, a symbol of royal authority and a source of control over sea and weather.

In film and other media, Aquaman is portrayed by Jason Momoa in the DC Extended Universe, beginning with Aquaman (2018) and continuing in later films. He has appeared in animated series and video games.

Notable storylines include the New 52 reboot and subsequent Rebirth retellings, which updated Atlantis and Arthur’s role within the wider DC Universe.
