Appellante

Appellante is a legal term used to designate the party who files an appeal against a court decision before a higher court. The term is common in Italian legal language and is often translated as "appellant" in English. In other Romance languages, cognate forms such as appelant or apelante may be used with similar meaning.

In civil and administrative proceedings, the appellante initiates the appeal by submitting a formal notice within the statutory deadline and by outlining the grounds for the appeal (motivi dell’appello). The goal is to have the decision reviewed and potentially overturned, amended, or clarified. The opposing party in the first instance decision is typically referred to as the appellato or respondent.
