Apheresilahjoitus, known in English as apheresis donation, is a method of blood donation where certain components of the blood are collected from a donor while the remaining blood is returned to the donor. This process involves apharesis equipment that separates the blood into its various parts, such as platelets, plasma, or white blood cells, and then returns the red blood cells and other unneeded components back to the donor.

The primary reason for apheresis donation is to collect specific blood components in larger quantities than would be possible through whole blood donation. For example, apheresis is commonly used to collect platelets, which are essential for blood clotting and are frequently needed by patients undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplant recipients. Plasma donation through apheresis is also important for producing life-saving therapies and is used to treat various medical conditions. White blood cells can also be collected for patients with certain types of leukemia or other immune deficiencies.

The apheresis procedure is generally safe for donors. The process typically takes longer than a standard whole blood donation, often lasting one to two hours, depending on the component being collected and the volume required.
