Anyagbiztonság, often translated as material safety or substance safety, refers to the principles and practices involved in ensuring the safe handling, storage, use, and disposal of chemical substances and materials. This encompasses understanding the inherent hazards of a substance, such as its flammability, toxicity, reactivity, or corrosiveness, and implementing appropriate measures to prevent harm to human health and the environment.

Key aspects of anyagbiztonság include hazard identification, which involves evaluating the potential risks associated with a material. This information is typically communicated through Safety Data Sheets (SDS), formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). SDS documents provide comprehensive details on a substance's properties, hazards, first-aid measures, firefighting procedures, accidental release measures, handling and storage recommendations, and exposure controls.

Another crucial element is risk assessment, which involves determining the likelihood and severity of potential harm arising from exposure to a hazardous material. Based on this assessment, control measures are put in place. These can include engineering controls (e.g., ventilation systems), administrative controls (e.g., work procedures and training), and personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., gloves, goggles, respirators).
