Antiphysics

Antiphysics is a theoretical concept that explores the idea of a universe where the fundamental laws of physics operate in a manner opposite to those observed in our own. This concept is often discussed in the context of thought experiments and speculative physics, rather than as a description of any actual physical reality. The term "antiphysics" was coined by physicist and science fiction author Robert L. Forward in his 1985 novel "Dragon's Egg."

In an antiphysical universe, the basic principles of physics would be inverted. For example, gravity might repel rather than attract, and light might travel from regions of higher to lower density rather than the other way around. The behavior of particles and fields would also be reversed. For instance, electrons might behave like positrons, and vice versa.

The concept of antiphysics is not grounded in any known scientific theory and remains purely speculative. It is often used to explore the limits of our understanding of the universe and to challenge our assumptions about the nature of reality. However, it is important to note that antiphysics is not a serious scientific hypothesis and should not be taken as a description of any actual physical universe.

Despite its speculative nature, antiphysics has inspired various works of science fiction, where it is often used to create unique and often bizarre scenarios. In these stories, antiphysical universes can serve as a source of wonder, mystery, and sometimes even danger for the characters. However, they remain firmly within the realm of fiction and do not correspond to any known or proposed physical theories.
