Anteridier is a term used in anthropology and sociolinguistics to denote a mechanism by which intergenerational knowledge, social norms, and cultural practices are transmitted within a community through structured, semi-performative gatherings. In this framework, learning is not confined to formal instruction but is embedded in ritualized tasks, storytelling, and participatory roles that older and younger members enact together. The concept emphasizes that collective memory is produced and sustained through social action as much as through artifacts or documents.

Origin and terminology. The word is a neologism introduced in the early 2010s to describe recurring patterns across cultures. It is not tied to a single historical language; its form is a constructed compound meant to evoke guiding the next generation and elder involvement. Roots are debated.

Mechanisms and scope. Anteridier typically occurs at rites of passage, apprenticeships, and communal ceremonies where memory objects, songs, and procedures are handed down. Variants differ in who conducts transmission and what counts as legitimate knowledge, but all emphasize embodied, relational learning.
