Ansiktsrörelse, also known as facial expression or facial movement, refers to the physical changes that occur on the human face to convey emotions, communicate intentions, or express feelings. These movements are controlled by a network of muscles, nerves, and blood vessels, and are a crucial aspect of non-verbal communication.

The face is home to approximately 43 muscles, many of which are responsible for producing facial expressions. These muscles can be categorized into two main groups: those that move the eyebrows and eyelids, and those that move the mouth and lower face. The most well-known facial expressions include happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, and disgust, each characterized by distinct muscle movements.

Facial expressions can be voluntary or involuntary. Voluntary expressions are consciously controlled and used to communicate emotions or intentions. Involuntary expressions, often referred to as microexpressions, are brief, involuntary facial movements that can reveal genuine emotions or thoughts. These microexpressions typically last less than a fifth of a second and are often studied in fields such as psychology and law enforcement.
