Annamitan

Annamitan is a fictional nation-state and cultural designation used in world-building and speculative fiction. In its in-universe geography, Annamitan is located on the eastern archipelago of the continent of Verdara, combining delta plains, mangrove coasts, and low mountain ranges. The term also denotes the Annamitan people and their language, which is the dominant language of administration and education within the state.

The Annamitan homeland covers roughly 52,000 square kilometers. The terrain ranges from fertile river deltas to coastal mangroves and rolling uplands. The population is about 6.8 million, with Lumari as the capital and largest city. Other major urban centers include Sethir and Mako. The official language is Annamitan; multiple minority languages and English are common in urban areas.

Annamitan operates as a constitutional republic. The president serves as head of state and is elected for a fixed term, while a bicameral legislature drafts laws. The state is divided into four provinces. The economy is a mixed market system with emphasis on agriculture (rice and spices), fishing, and light manufacturing; tourism and services play growing roles. The currency is the Annamitan Credit (AC).

Historically, the Annamitan polity traces its roots to medieval coastal trade networks and later inland expansion. It achieved defined independence in the early 20th century and has since developed a diverse cultural life. Annamitan culture emphasizes seafaring heritage and crafts, with a regional cuisine featuring fish, rice, and coconut, celebrated in several national festivals.
