These markets play a crucial role in the global economy by facilitating the raising of capital for governments and corporations. When an entity needs to borrow money for a specific period, it can issue bonds. Investors who purchase these bonds are essentially lending money to the issuer in exchange for periodic interest payments, known as coupon payments, and the return of the principal amount at maturity.
