AngloScottish

Anglo-Scottish is an adjective used to describe matters associated with both England and Scotland. It is applied to people of mixed English and Scottish descent as well as to cultural practices, institutions, and political or economic relations that involve the two countries. In scholarship and media, the term serves as a neutral shorthand for the bilateral relationship within the United Kingdom.

Historically, the Anglo-Scottish relationship has been shaped by a long shared border and fluctuating political arrangements. The Union of the Crowns in 1603 tied the crowns of England and Scotland under one monarch but preserved separate parliaments. The Acts of Union in 1707 created the Kingdom of Great Britain by uniting the English and Scottish parliaments, bringing formal political and economic integration. The period that followed saw intensified economic ties, integration of legal and administrative frameworks, and ongoing cultural exchange, even as questions of national identity and sovereignty persisted within both countries.

In contemporary usage, Anglo-Scottish can refer to cross-border cooperation in areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and trade, as well as to cultural and social exchange. It is also used to describe individuals or communities with mixed English and Scottish heritage, or to discussions of regional identity in border areas and urban centers with diverse populations.
