Angamiant

Angamiant refers to the ethnic group indigenous to the Angami Naga hills in the northeastern Indian state of Nagaland. The Angami people are one of the major Naga tribes and have a distinct culture, language, and social structure. They primarily inhabit the Kohima district and surrounding areas. Historically, the Angami society was organized into clans and villages, with a strong emphasis on community and kinship. Agriculture, particularly paddy cultivation on terraced fields, forms the backbone of their economy. They are also known for their traditional crafts, including weaving and pottery.

The Angami language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman language family and has several dialects spoken across different regions. Their traditional religion was animistic, but Christianity has become widespread since the arrival of missionaries. The Angami people have a rich tradition of oral literature, folklore, and music. They celebrate various festivals throughout the year, with Sekrenyi being one of their most important festivals, marking the start of the new year and signifying purification and fertility. The Angami Naga have played a significant role in the political and cultural landscape of Nagaland.
