Andmevoog

Andmevoog is an Estonian term used in information technology to describe the flow of data through a system—from source to destination. It encompasses the collection, transport, processing, and delivery of data, whether in real time or batch mode. In IT practice, an andmevoog is implemented as a data pipeline or streaming architecture that links data producers, processing components, and data consumers.

Etymology: The term is a compound of andmed (data) and voog (flow) in Estonian. It is widely used in Estonian tech literature, architecture diagrams, and governance discussions to refer to how data moves within and between systems. It is not tied to a single product and may be used descriptively or as a project name.

Architecture and usage: A typical andmevoog includes sources (databases, applications, sensors), ingestion and routing, data processing (transformation, enrichment, validation), and storage and consumption endpoints. Real-time and near-real-time processing relies on streaming concepts, event-driven architectures, and message brokers, while batch-oriented flows use scheduled jobs and ETL steps. Governance, data quality, and privacy considerations are often integral to design and documentation.
