Andmekogumik

Andmekogumik refers to a traditional Korean folk game that is believed to have originated during the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). The name is composed of two words: *andmeok* (안목), meaning "vision" or "judgment," and *gumik* (굼직), which describes the action of stepping or moving in a particular pattern. The game is often played by children and involves a combination of strategy, balance, and teamwork.

The game is typically played on a flat, open surface such as a courtyard or a field. Players form a circle, and one person is chosen to be the "chaser" or "guardian," while the rest form a line or a single file. The chaser must tag the last person in line without being caught themselves. If tagged, the chaser takes the place of the last person, and the game continues. Variations exist, including rules where players must hop or skip on one foot while moving.

Andmekogumik is often associated with other traditional Korean games like *ssireum* (traditional Korean wrestling) and *yutnori* (a board game), reflecting broader cultural practices that emphasize physical activity and social bonding. It is sometimes played during festivals, community gatherings, or as part of educational activities to teach children about teamwork and spatial awareness.

While not as widely documented as some other Korean games, andmekogumik remains a part of oral tradition, passed down through generations. Its simplicity and adaptability make it a versatile activity that continues to be enjoyed in modern settings, particularly in rural areas or cultural events celebrating heritage.
