Andmeedastuste

Andmeedastuste is a term used in Estonian to refer to data transmissions or data broadcasts, i.e., the act of sending digital information from one or more sources to one or more receivers. In networking and telecommunications, andmeedastus describes the process by which data packets travel across a medium or network.

Data transmissions can be categorized by recipients: unicast (one-to-one), multicast (one-to-many, limited group), and broadcast (one-to-all). They can also be described by mode: simplex (one-way), half-duplex, and full-duplex. The choice influences bandwidth, latency, and reliability.

The physical media for data transmissions include wired options such as fiber and copper, as well as wireless options such as Wi-Fi, cellular networks, and satellite links. At higher layers, protocols govern delivery, such as TCP and UDP over IP, and application-level protocols like MQTT for sensors or HTTP(S) for web traffic. For real-time media, protocols like RTP over UDP or RTSP might be used, and streaming protocols such as HLS or DASH support data delivery to clients.

Applications of andmeedastuste range from general internet traffic and sensor networks to financial market data feeds and broadcasting services. Data transmission quality is measured by throughput, latency, jitter and error rate; reliability is enhanced by error correction, retransmission, and encryption for privacy.
