Anafülaktiline

Anafülaktiline refers to anaphylaxis, a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It occurs when the immune system overreacts to an allergen, releasing a flood of chemicals that cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and airway obstruction. Common triggers include certain foods like nuts and shellfish, insect stings, medications, and latex.

The onset of anaphylaxis is typically rapid, often within minutes of exposure to the allergen, though it can sometimes take up to an hour. Symptoms can vary but commonly include hives, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, wheezing, a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and a feeling of impending doom. Gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur.

Prompt recognition and treatment are crucial. The primary treatment for anaphylaxis is an injection of epinephrine (adrenaline), which can reverse the symptoms. This is usually followed by medical observation and sometimes other medications like antihistamines and corticosteroids. Individuals with a history of anaphylaxis are often advised to carry an epinephrine auto-injector at all times. Prevention involves avoiding known triggers and educating others about the condition and necessary emergency procedures.
