Amram

Amram is a figure in the Hebrew Bible identified as a member of the tribe of Levi, belonging to the Kohathite branch. He is the son of Kohath and the grandson of Levi, making him a patriarchal ancestor within the Leviite line. In the biblical account, Amram is described as the husband of Jochebed, who is also a daughter of Levi, and together they are the parents of Aaron and Moses, with Miriam described as their sister.

In the Exodus narrative, Amram’s family is presented in genealogies found in Exodus 6:16-20 and Numbers 26:58-59. These passages place Amram within the Levitical lineage and confirm that he fathered Aaron and Moses; Miriam is noted as their sister. Exodus 6:20 also records that Amram lived 137 years.
