Amperekierros

Amperekierros is a unit of magnetomotive force (MMF) in the centimeter-gram-second (CGS) system of units. It is often abbreviated as "At" for ampere-turn, although this is technically the SI unit. The term amperekierros specifically refers to the CGS unit. One amperekierros is defined as the magnetomotive force produced by a current of one ampere flowing through a coil of one turn.

Magnetomotive force is the magnetic equivalent of electromotive force (voltage) in an electric circuit. It is the driving force that produces magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit. The amperekierros is a measure of this driving force. In practical applications, such as in the design of electromagnets and transformers, the amperekierros is a crucial parameter. The relationship between amperekierros, current, and the number of turns in a coil is straightforward. If a current I flows through a coil with N turns, the magnetomotive force produced is N * I amperekierros. While the SI unit for MMF is the ampere-turn (At), the amperekierros is still encountered in some older literature and in specific contexts where CGS units are used. The conversion between the two is that 1 amperekierros is equal to 1 ampere-turn.
