Ametikohast

Ametikohast is a fictional city-state in the northern reaches of the continent of Eldoria. It sits at the junction of major inland and riverine trade routes and is renowned for its canal network and brick-built architecture. It sits on the delta of the Ameti River, with fertile surroundings and a temperate climate featuring warm summers and cool, damp winters, moderated by the waterways that sustain transport and agriculture.

Ametikohast was founded in the 11th century by a consortium of merchant guilds and grew into a major commercial hub. It passed under several rulers before becoming an autonomous city-state after the Treaty of Dryharbor in 1493. In the modern era, it joined the Eldorian Confederation, retaining a strong guild influence on policy.

The city is governed by the Council of Guildmasters, which oversees commerce, infrastructure, and cultural affairs. A magistrate, elected for a four-year term, presides over administration, while guild associations enjoy a high degree of autonomy in local policy and licensing.

The economy centers on trade, textiles, pottery, and light metallurgy. The Grand Bazaar serves as a hub for regional traders, while craft schools train artisans in textiles, ceramics, and metalwork. Cultural life emphasizes river festivals, markets, and a bilingual tradition in the common tongue and the Ameti dialect.

Notable sites include the Ameti Library, the Bridge of Veils, and the Temple of the River. The population is several hundred thousand, with exports of silk, brassware, and fine ceramics.
