Amanogawa

Amanogawa is the Japanese name for the Milky Way galaxy. The name translates directly to "heavenly river" or "river of the sky." This poetic designation reflects the ancient Japanese perception of the Milky Way as a celestial body of water flowing across the night sky.

The Amanogawa has been a significant element in Japanese culture and folklore for centuries. It is often associated with the Tanabata festival, also known as the Star Festival. According to legend, two celestial lovers, Orihime (the Weaver Princess, represented by Vega) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd Star, represented by Altair), are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. Their meeting place is said to be across the Amanogawa, symbolizing the vast distance and the rarity of their reunion.
