Alveolærkammens
Alveolærkammens, also known as the alveolar ridge, is a prominent anatomical feature in the human mouth. It is the bony protrusion that forms the anterior part of the maxilla, located just behind the upper incisor teeth. This ridge is covered by a mucous membrane and plays a crucial role in speech production and mastication. The structure of the alveolar ridge is critical for the articulation of various sounds in language, particularly those made with the tongue against the roof of the mouth, such as 't', 'd', and 'n'. It also provides support for the upper teeth. In dentistry, the alveolar ridge is an important consideration for procedures like denture fitting and dental implant placement, as its shape and integrity can significantly impact the success of these interventions. Damage or resorption of the alveolar ridge can occur due to trauma, tooth loss, or certain medical conditions, potentially affecting oral function.
