Altamura
Altamura is a city and comune in the Metropolitan City of Bari, in the Apulia region of southern Italy. It is located in the Murgia plateau, about 40 kilometers south of Bari. Altamura is known for its rich history and agricultural importance, particularly for its bread. The historical center of Altamura preserves many ancient buildings and churches, including the imposing Cathedral of Altamura, a fine example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Archaeological discoveries in the surrounding area have revealed significant prehistoric settlements, including the famous "Uomo di Altamura," a Neanderthal skeleton discovered in a cave.
