Alquímicos refers to individuals who practiced alchemy, an ancient philosophical and proto-scientific tradition. Alchemists sought to understand the fundamental nature of matter and its transformations. Their primary goals often included the transmutation of base metals, such as lead, into noble metals like gold, and the discovery of the elixir of life, a potion believed to grant immortality or cure all diseases.

They were pioneers in areas like distillation, sublimation, and the preparation of various acids and compounds. Key figures in the history of alchemy include Zosimos of Panopolis, Jabir ibn Hayyan (Geber), and Paracelsus, each contributing distinct theories and practices.

The practice of alchemy spanned various cultures, including ancient Egypt, Greece, the Islamic world, and medieval and Renaissance Europe. It was not a monolithic discipline but encompassed diverse traditions and interpretations.
